President’s Message

Hello members,

I am truly honored to be writing this article as your newest LAPRAAC President.  2020 has been a crazy year so far.  I hope all of you find yourself in good health and are taking care of your families.  So far this year we have seen one event after another being cancelled.  From Baker to Vegas to the Nevada Police and Fire Games and everything in between, we have experienced a year like no other.  I want to assure you that LAPRAAC will bounce back from this stronger than ever and I hope all of you are finding a way to stay in shape so that you can hit the ground running when we are cleared to resume our schedule.

I am pleased to announce the two newest members to the LAPRAAC Board of Directors.  Robert Yanez and Amanda Lankford bring a wealth of knowledge, passion and expertise with the Baker to Vegas race.  They each have captained their respective teams to first place finishes in their respective categories and they are assets to the board.  Speaking of Baker to Vegas, as of this printing we are actively working on the race for 2021.  We are working with medical experts to figure out a way to put on a safe and successful race.  Keep checking the Baker to Vegas website, www.bakervegas.net, for the latest updates.

LAPRAAC is currently working on many projects during this time.  The gun store will be reopening in early September with a new gun store manager.  We have also been working with Captain Pete Casey on the beautification of Elysian Park.  It is not an easy task to maintain these grounds and we thank Captain Casey for all his hard work.  The Elysian Park weight room and swimming pool remain open for your use.  The LAPRAAC Board also recently approved range days for our retired members to get their yearly qualification completed.

Our projects committee is working on plans to bring a brand-new state of the art weight room to Elysian Park.  We are early in the process, but I am hopeful that we can break ground within the next year.  We are also looking at a major remodel to the rock garden.  I am hopeful that we can get back to normal soon and I look forward to seeing our inter-mural sports resume.  If I can answer any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  Together we will get through these trying times.  Stay safe out there and take care of each other.
