General Information And FAQ

This Event is Open to all Active & Retired Sworn Law Enforcement and Fire Personnel

LAPRAAC is proud to present the 2020 Police and Fire Winter Invitational.  Although this is only the third year that LAPRAAC is presenting this event, these Police and Fire ski and snowboard races have been held at Mammoth Mountain for over 40 years.  They started out as the California Fire/Police Winter Olympics, then became The World Police and Fire Winter Games and now proudly, The LAPRAAC Police and Fire Winter Invitational.  The name has changed, but the same world class ski racing blue print at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has not.  Our goal has been to provide a sustainable and affordable event throughout the years for both police and fire personnel to come together for several days of competition and camaraderie.

General Information:
Once again for 2020, we will offer the following races at our event:  GS, SL and SG for both skiers and snowboarders.  The top 8 snowboarders and top 16 skiers from the GS race will get a bonus race and compete in the head to head dual.  This dual event is known as the “Detective Rick Conrado Memorial”, named after our beloved friend, skier and co-worker who passed away far too early in life on December 28, 2010.  We also offer two Nordic races that take place at the same time and on the same Nordic track.  Time to step up and challenge yourself in the 4K Classic or the 8K Skate!  It’s at a breathtaking venue and a lot of fun.  The cost is included in your registration fee, you just have to have your own gear or rent at the Tamarack Cross Country Center.  Discounted rates for participants will be available.  We will allow for adult guests of police and fire personnel to race on a case per case basis.  For any questions concerning our guest racer policy or any other information, please contact retired LAPD Officer Mike Braun at or at (661) 857-9346.
For the FREE “Learn to Race” days:
The LAPRAAC Snowboard Team is inviting any police and fire personnel that are skiers and snowboarders to a series of free “Learn to Race” days held at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.  The training days are designed for both experienced racers and those new to the sport, to show you how fun ski and snowboard racing really is.  Each session is approximately two hours in length with coaching, private race courses and a daily discounted lift ticket available to those without an Ikon Pass.  These days will take place on the following Mondays: 12/16/19, 1/13/20 and 2/3/20.
